Review: Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Deauville

I bought the Nars Sheer Glow foundation a little while ago, mentioned in my New Beauty Products blog post. I feel like it has been long enough to share my thoughts on it! I bought mine from John Lewis here and it retails at £31.

First, let’s talk about the colour! I bought mine online so this meant lots and lots of searching pictures of the shades and swatches. I find choosing foundation shades really difficult because I never know whether to buy the shade to match with my fake tan shade, my natural skin shade or somewhere in between! This time I decided to aim for a shade that is slightly darker than my natural shade, so that I could use it both when I’m at my palest and just blend down my neck, as well as when my tan is fading out and warmed up with a little bronzer.

In the end, I decided on the shade ‘Deauville, Light 4’. This foundation has 19 shades altogether, and does brilliantly at undertones. Deauville is said to be ‘light with neutral balance of pink and yellow undertones’. I have to say, I think it leans more towards the yellow-ish side. It is slightly too dark for me, but considering I chose my shade online, I’m really pleased I went for this one!

Now on to the foundation itself. I’ve really been enjoying using this and trying out which ways it applies best! I would say it is a medium coverage, but you can definitely make it full coverage by the way you apply. At the moment, I like to use a buffing brush to really work it into the skin, but my favourite finish is using a damp Real Techniques sponge to really bounce and push the foundation into my skin.

I was worried because I had read really mixed reviews from dry skinned users – some said it highlighted dry patches and looked awful but some said it was the best foundation they had ever used. Luckily, I have had no issues whatsoever with using this with my dry skin! It doesn’t cling to dry skin really, which I’m really pleased about.

On my skin, this foundation feels almost matte when I first apply it. I don’t need to set it with powder as it sort of becomes a second skin! However, after first application, it has a lovely gentle glow to it which looks really healthy and lovely. It has really good staying power, I have used it with powder for a 9 hour shift at work and it had barely moved at all!

So to find a foundation that doesn’t make my skin look dry yet stays on all day is unusual for me and I’m so pleased I picked this up. I’m looking forward to carrying on using this throughout the winter to see if it continues being such a fab base. Hope you found this review helpful, let my know your thoughts if you have tried this foundation!
