Disappointing Makeup Products

These are just a few products which haven’t quite met my expectations. These aren’t all bad products, in fact I use a lot of them!

They just aren’t quite what I’d hoped they would be, either in terms of formula, colour etc.

First is the Seventeen Define and Conquer Contour palette in the lightest shade. As you can see from the photo, I have hit the pan on the highlight shade! I went through a stage of using it a lot so I have got plenty of use from this.

However, I find the contour shade is a real shame. It isn’t really a contour colour, it is very orange toned so looks silly when used to contour. I use it as a bronzer and an eyeshadow,so it isn’t a wasted product at all, but for pale skin, it just isn’t any good for shaping the face.

Next is the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Collagen Mascara. It works as a mascara to define and darken lashes, but it just had no ‘wow’ factor for me. I wanted to love it as lots of Soap and Glory makeup products have been great for me! But maybe this one just didn’t agree with my lashes – who knows!

Next is the Seventeen Wow Skin Liquid Glow in the Tan shade. I sooo wanted to love this product! I had imagined applying it before foundation for a bronzed, sun-kissed glow. But actually, it is a really quick drying products that I really struggle to blend into my skin. It just doesn’t feel as nice as I hoped it would, as I find my self dragging it across my skin!

However, I do often use it mixed with an oil to help it slide more, and it can be mixed in with foundation too so it isn’t all bad. Just not quite what I had imagined!

Finally, I wanted to add in MAC Honeylove lipstick. Now I use this one really often and it is the most perfect nude shade for everyday and it looks gorgeous with so many makeup looks.

But the formula is so drying on my lips. I find that some MAC matte lipsticks are more drying than others and this just seems to be one of them. I think it looks even more dry than it actually is because it is a lighter shade. Anyway, the colour is so lovely that I wear it regardless, just takes a bit more work!

So that is everything! I don’t want to be super negative, and I like to find a use for products whether it is in the conventional way or not. Have you ever tried something that just wasn’t what you expected?

I love your photo layouts! And your post was very informative. I personally use the MAC Velvet Teddy alot but I don’t find it is drying, do you use lipbalm before applying lipistick?

Ah that’s so kind, thank you very much! I have Velvet Teddy, which applies brilliantly for me too, so it’s strange that Honeylove is drying on me! I often do, my favourite is Nuxe Reve de mil balm 🙂 xxx

nothing is worse than having dry and crumbly lipstick. i love the satin formula on a day to day basis as its just so comfortable but the colours are so opaque.

I know, I love the colour so I’m wearing it but it’s just not as pretty as a satin finish on the lips! Agreed, they are my favourite in terms of formula! Xx

Such a shame that Honeylove is drying! I’ve been wanting to try it forever but can’t stand the feeling of dry lips.

I know 🙁 but hopefully i just got a bad one, it is such a gorgeous colour that I still wear it! Just wish it wouldn’t cling to dryness xxx

Maybe it’s just me who finds it so dry, I still wear it as it is the most lovely colour – just lots of lipbalm needed before hand! Xxx
