Travel: London At Christmas!

My boyfriend and I took a trip to London for the first 4 days of December! It has become a mini tradition to go away for a city break at the start of the festive season – last year we went to Edinburgh, I wrote all about it in this blog post.

This time we picked London and it was the best 4 days ever! I have to apologize in advance for the quality of the images – I didn’t take my proper camera so they are taken on my IPhone. I’ll get better at travel photos, I promise!

That first picture is from outside the Natural History Museum, where they had a beautiful tree and ice rink, so festive!

As usual, the lights on Carnaby Street were some of my favourites! We went back on a couple of the days, as there are such great shops on Carnaby Street but it is slightly less busy than on Oxford St – although truthfully, everywhere is busy this time of year!

I felt really nervous before I went about the tube, I can be really claustrophobic and feel trapped, but I found that as we stayed near the door of the tube, I felt ok as I knew I could hop out at the next stop if I wanted, plus I felt really safe with my boyfriend so I didn’t worry!

Last time I went to Harrods, I think I was about 8 so I couldn’t remember it that well – we ended up spending such a long time in there! There is just so much to look at, even if you aren’t buying anything.

On the second day, we headed to get food at our favourite restaurateur in Covent Garden called Pasta Brown, which we always go back to! We caught the tube over to Winter Wonderland for the evening. It is absolutely amazing, I really recommend visiting if you can! It felt so festive, and it is so big, it felt like I was in a town built just for Christmas.

We had pre-bought tickets to go to the Ice Bar in Winter Wonderland, which was such a fun experience. They give you a poncho with a fur hood and gloves to wear inside, plus your drinks tokens and in you go! It was absolutely freezing, like so cold that when you leave, the normal winter air feels warm! It was so much fun though, and the ice cups, tables and chairs were all co cleverly made.

I loved Winter Wonderland as the atmosphere was just so happy and merry, everyone seemed in such a lovely, festive mood. There were lots of people singing on stages at different parts of the park so you could just move around and see all the different people.

Of course we had to get donuts to warm up after the Ice Bar, I actually feel hungry just looking at that photo now haha! Is there anything better than freshly made, sugar ring donuts? Mmmmm.

Speaking of food, we had so much delicious food while we were away. We stopped off at a Prezzo for some lunch, we just went for pizza but it was so good, I just wanted to add in these food photos in to remind me where to go back to for great food but it is just making me hungry haha!

I think my favourite place we had food at was The Alchemist, Bevis Marks. It was about a five minute walk from our hotel, so we booked in advance for lunch on the Saturday. I had fish and chips, but honestly, it was the best portion of fish and chips I ever tasted, so delicious!

Also if you want somewhere to go for cocktails, I would really recommend The Alchemist bars, I think there are a few in different cities. They do those amazing potion-style drinks which are so much fun. Just a really nice atmosphere and not too expensive!

Christmas tree in Covent Garden. I think there is definitely a running theme that all Christmas displays look 10 times prettier at night when everything is covered in fairy lights.

Another place I would definitely visit at Christmas again is the ice rink at Somerset House! The photo doesn’t do it justice – it was absolutely beautiful. We visited on the perfect day – really cold, frosty and crisp but so bright and sunny (my all-time favourite weather!)

Happy hour cocktails at Las Iguanas. I can’t even remember what this drink was called but it was honestly the best cocktail I have ever tried, so delicious.

I had the best few days in London, I’m really glad we went for four days as it really gave us a chance to visit everywhere we wanted without being rushed! If you ever get the chance to go to London during the build up to Christmas, I would completely recommend it, so festive!

The entire London Trip looked perfect with the great festive decorations, good food & drinks, and your picture quality is not bad at all!!! We have an Ice Bar here in Boston (US) too, I have yet to go inside of it- I’m not really a fan of the cold as is lol but I hear that it’s honestly awesome inside. I’d go in to check it out but just to go in theres like a $20 cover- but I hear they have beautiful ice sculptures inside. Did you guys get to go ice skating? Thanks for showing me London!!!

Aww thank you lovely, it was such a lovely time!! Yeah it was my first time in one too, I felt stupid for not realising quite how cold it would be lol! Yeah, we had to pay £15 for tickets but you got drinks tokens so that was good! Funnily enough, we didn’t actually skate ourselves! We are both hopeless at it so we’re happier to watch everyone else lol! You are more than welcome Hun! Xxx
