Get Yourself Motivated: Boost Productivity

In a world where you can lose hours just scrolling through social media, it can be hard to be productive. Today I wanted to chat about how I stay motivated to be productive and get work done! I have been a daily blogger for around 5-6 months now which I am really proud of, I have had to be motivated to keep going throughout! But of course, these tips apply to literally anything that requires you to get things done. Whether that is blogging, uni/school work, your job, the housework, meal prepping, exercise, a hobby – the list is endless really.

Lists are your new best friend! This is something that changed the game for me – writing down what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and anything else it entails. I have two favourite ways to do this. The first is my Bullet Journal, where I organise anything and everything, from blogging to work to exercise. Do it in whichever way you like – I find lists are clear and easy to read, but you might work better with charts or diary entries. Once you’ve written it down, its there on the paper so you are much less likely to forget anything you need to do (that is the idea anyway!) I also have a mini whiteboard that I write on each day, the things that absolutely have to be done that day. Then once its done, you can just wipe it away. Saves using paper, so its good for the rain forest!

(another tip: add some ‘normal’ tasks to your to-do list, like ‘have breakfast’ or ‘wash my hair’ so you get the satisfaction of ticking things off your list from the outset – it will keep you motivated to keep ticking the boxes!)

This one seems obvious, but it is so difficult! With smart phones and tablets, it is so easy to be constantly multi-tasking (I have caught myself trying to watch a YouTube video whilst writing a blog post, and typing what I was hearing by accident! It happens with song lyrics too, am I the only one who does this?!) But the best way to be productive, is to take things one at a time. If you needed to sit down and do some work, leave your phone in another room, switch off the TV and focus for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, let yourself check your phone or get a snack (pizza?) and then get back to work – keep going like this until the job is done. Focusing all your attention in one place will get the job done in the best way possible.

An easy way to stay motivated is to think about the result. If you know you need to deep clean the house and you just can’t bring yourself to start, try thinking about how satisfying it will feel once your whole house is sparkling! Or say you needed to revise for an exam, focus on afterwards, when you’ll feel so happy with your result because you put the extra work in. I think looking at the bigger picture helps – I always have to convince myself to go to the gym. I dread going sometimes, but thinking about how good I will feel afterwards encourages me to go. Once the not-so-enjoyable tasks are out the way, you can start with the fun things.

This is a great way to boost productivity. Don’t plan to do a hundred tasks in one day as it won’t get done! If your to-do list is as long as your arm, work down the list and pick out the essential tasks that need to be done. Prioritising in this way means you won’t be struggling with an overwhelming amount of tasks, but you will get done what needs to be done.

Especially if it is something you are dreading, like an exam, driving test or something along those lines. But even if all you did was visit the gym, the same principle still applies! I love having a bubble bath with a Lush bath bomb, that is my favourite way to end a productive day! But everyone is different, your little treat might be a new lipstick, lighting your favourite candle or watching your favourite film. I think we can all agree that chocolate is always a good treat too. But looking after yourself is really important so take time to treat yourself after a hard days work.

I hope this was helpful! What are your favourite ways to stay motivated and be productive?

I find that I always think that I’m going to do 10x as much in a day then I actually accomplish! It’s so easy to think “this will only take 10 minutes” but in reality it’ll take you an hour +. It’s helpful to be practical in times like this and feel ok if you didn’t complete everything… there’s always tomorrow! 😉

That is so true! It’s hard when realistically, I take like 20 min breaks whenever I can haha! So satisfying when everything is accomplished though 🙂 xx

I can totally agree with ‘lists being your best friend’, I seriously need to make lists for everything I need or do but it really makes all the difference. I find that if I write it down at least once, it sticks to with me. Prioritizing surely helps a ton too- I like to tell myself, just do one thing at a time and I’ll be good! Excellent tips to share!!!
