The Ordinary Skincare: Hyaluronic Acid Serum Review

The Ordinary is the skincare brand that has caught the eye of pretty much all of us. I kept hearing all about their products, so I decided to try something myself. Today I am reviewing the Hyaluronic Acid Serum and sharing my thoughts and initial impressions!

So a little about the brand – The Ordinary is a brand from Deciem, the parent company. The idea is basically high quality, effective skincare solutions that are stripped back of any fancy packaging and unreasonable ‘miracle’ claims. Their products tend to retail between £5 and £10 – so they are cost-effective and affordable for everyone. I think the idea is brilliant! We don’t see many brands that really strip back to their products to focus on those key ingredients that actually work, I am so excited at the idea behind The Ordinary. So on to the review!

The packaging of this serum is consistent with the brand – a simple grey, white and black colour scheme with frosted glass. This has a pipette to dispense the product which I love, so handy for getting the right amount. I feel like the products feel almost medical, so you really feel like these are targeted skincare treatments! They have the packaging spot on.

In case you haven’t heard of it before, hyaluronic acid is a dehydrated-skin sufferers best friend. It isn’t as scary as it sounds – it is simply one of the best skin-hydrators available. It should deliver supple, hydrated skin with fine lines and wrinkles.

This product is brilliant! I have been using it for about 2 weeks now, but this is one of those serums that shows immediate results because you can feel how much plumper and smoother your skin is after the first use. This is a daily serum, to be applied morning and evening as the first step of skincare. I especially love using this in the morning. My skin can be dehydrated as well as dry, so I love using this before my moisturising cream to cover both those bases.

It glides over your skin, to keep it hydrated, then becomes slightly tacky right as you finish applying. I find I get the best results with this if I apply my moisturiser on straight away after, I guess this technique really locks in the hydration.

The main plus for me is how much better my makeup applies when I have used this! I feel like fine lines show more when I wear the foundation/concealer/powder combo, but using this serum noticeably diminishes all these lines – yay!

So overall, I am so impressed! This is a no-fuss, does-what-it-says product. The serum makes my skin more hydrated and reduces the appearance of find lines. I love using this each morning at the moment. Plus combined with the value-for-money, this is a win-win serum for me. I can’t wait to try some more from The Ordinary. Their foundations are released today (March 27th) I believe so I may try to order one for myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell out fast!

Please let me know if you have tried anything from The Ordinary – what were your thoughts?

I keep meaning to pop into their store and check it out…. I love the idea of no fuss skin care. And although their packaging is ‘minimal/simple’ it translates well into the current minimal trend that’s happening right now!!
