Travel: A Staycation Break To Devon

Last week, I spent a few days away in Teignmouth in Devon for a lovely short holiday with my family. If you saw my Staycation Ideas blog post, you’ll know how much I love exploring new places in the UK! This was somewhere new to try and it was just perfect. The weather was beautiful every day (how often does that happen here in England?!) and we stayed in a gorgeous rooftop apartment. Sometimes a break away is just what you need.

I live in a seaside town anyway, so I always feel at home when I am near the sea, even if it isn’t particularly blue! I simply love being outside whenever I can, it makes me feel lifted and full of energy. Our apartment was right next to the seafront, so it felt like you walked right out of the door and onto the beach.

This is the view of the pier from where we stayed. Such a great view! Whilst we were away, we had some lovely meals out. I feel like the further you go into the South West of England, the less chain restaurants you find. No Wagamamma’s or Nando’s – but so many fantastic, independent restaurants to eat at.

If you ever visit Teignmouth, I definitely have a few places to recommend. We had the best carvery ever at The Smugglers Inn near Dawlish, all 8 of us had such a good meal. For Italian food, The Colosseum in Teignmouth itself was just lovely, plus we had some perfect pizzas to takeaway from there! Finally, I can’t recommend The Crab Shack enough. Again, situated in Teignmouth itself, they served the most delicious food. Mostly seafood (with fab vegetarian options too!) and such a lovely atmosphere. We were so impressed with our meal there.

I loved the painted houses dotted all the way along the seafront in the town. I’d love to live in a brightly coloured house one day! We also had the best day out at Paignton Zoo, which is about twenty minutes from Teignmouth. I have a full blog post about that day out coming soon!

We stayed in the Riviera Apartments which gave such beautiful views, plus you caught the sunrise and sunset depending on which room you went in. The best part about these apartments is that every room has ceiling to floor windows, giving you amazing surrounding view of the town and sea. The rooms were white and airy so I was in my element – I just love bright spaces as I feel like it can really brighten your mood to be in a lovely, naturally lit space!

I had such a lovely time away, I feel like we should book a trip there again for next year, especially as we found some lovely restaurants that we would love to return to. Who needs the Maldives when you can go to Devon?

I love the brightly painted houses! I’ve never visited an area where theres a line full of them but I see them all the time on pinterest and I always pin them thinking that those are the places I want to see! Devon sounds like a wonderful place for a little getaway and I can’t deny that I love that there are so many seafood options!!!
