The older I get, the less I read. I used to get through a new book every week, spending my evenings reading until I fell asleep. Now though, I rarely just read for fun. I love reading cookbooks (see my favourite recipe books in this blog post) and reading books for learning, but just not for enjoyment really!
As technology gets better, books are being replaced with TV, blogs, shopping websites and social media. I think that is because scrolling on a phone takes much less brain power than reading books. Also, reading takes concentration – whereas on social media we just switch between different apps or websites that we barely focus on one thing for too long. I feel almost guilty for neglecting all the books there are in the word!
Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely not saying I’m giving up being on the internet by any means! But, I have decided to set myself a challenge to get reading again.
I’m not going to set a time limit on it, because I’d like to just read for fun and not put too much pressure on! But I want to make time to read a novel, one I haven’t read before. I am definitely one of those people who like routine and familiarity so I love the comfort of favourite old books. But my mission is to read a brand new one!!
I thought I would list a few of my favourite books, in case you feel like picking up a book too!
My Favourite Books:
- ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’
- The Harry Potter series (especially the first one!)
- ‘I Heart’ series by Lyndsey Kelk (my favourite author)
- ‘Summer At Shell Cottage’
- ‘My Not So Perfect Life’ by Sophie Kinsella
- ‘The Single Girl’s To Do List’ also by Lyndsey Kelk
- The Hunger Games (the first one mainly)
- ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ & ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’
- The Little House series
I found this list of ‘Favourite Books’ that people voted for. There are so many on this list that I would love to be able to say ‘I’ve read that!’. I am linking the list so I can come back to it for reference, using it as a sort of check list of book ideas.
Let me know what you feel about reading, I’d love to know if it is just me or if lots of people feel this way about books!
