Hydrating your skin is so important, whatever your skin type! Dry skin is a thing of the past, as these days there are so many incredible products to target this! There is such a vast world of skincare to choose from, it can seem a little overwhelming. Mine is dry and dehydrated. So it needs hydrating, water-based products just as much as it needs thick moisturisers.
I’ve put together this guide of the best hydrators I have tried. Notice a theme with the packaging? The fresh, bright, blue bottles and tubs always lure me in. When you see a product in this gorgeous sky-blue colour, you know its worth trying. It just shouts hydration!
The Neutrogena Hydro Boost is a force to be reckoned with. Within just over a month, it has become the number one products I reach for in the morning. This comes in its own little tub, so you just scoop out the amount you need and go for it. It is definitely a ‘gel’ consistency, but turns to a more water-based consistency as you work it into the skin. I’ve actually used this on patches of eczema too, just to hydrate it too. This one is my favourite to use under makeup, providing a smooth, hydrated base. I have raved more about this in a full review of the gel, so go and have a little read if it takes your fancy. I tend to use this gel, followed by my Body Shop SPF 50 cream for a quick and easy routine.
The Vichy Aqualia serum was the first ‘hydrating’ product I tried. Recommended by Sali Hughes in one of her posts, I couldn’t resist trying it. After I used this, I learned how much better my skin is when I use products targeted for dehydrated skin, not just dry. This is a serum, so will be the very first step in your skincare. One pump of the serum goes a long way, and melts into the skin quickly and seamlessly.
I don’t notice a shocking difference, but my skin is much more comfortable throughout the day when I use it. My skin doesn’t try to drink foundation anymore (not nice I know!) I have a special love for this serum as it started my love for these hydrators off!
I would say the L’Oreal Aloe Water was the first ‘high-street’ hydrator I tried, and I was impressed straight away! If you ever got sunburn on holiday, this would be ideal as a soothing after-sun! I would say this is very similar to the Neutrogena gel, but in a much more liquid form.
You can layer this up if your skin is feeling really thirsty. That is the best way to explain these products actually – skin seems to drink them. It is like watering your plants!
I had to mention this little sample of the Clarins HydraQuench cream. Only a little sample, but it is such a handy product. This combines the two skin gripes that I have – dryness and dehydration. This left my skin, dare I say it, looking oily – but in a good way! Something I have never had, it made me incredibly excited to have a natural glow. Dry skinned people – this is so lovely. Not one for oily skins, but perfect if your skin feels parched. If this had SPF of 30 or 50, it would be like a dream product.
Have you ever tried any of these hydrating skincare products?
