Sometimes, only a base with good coverage will do! From day-to-day, I usually reach for the serum foundation from The Ordinary, but whenever I am wearing more than just mascara on my eyes, I want a more flawless base.
I’ve put together 3 of my favourites, a mix of budget and high end choices. I think there is a misconception that you get what you pay for with foundation, but I’ve found some amazing options for around £10!
Nars Sheer Glow foundation.
Ah Nars. I couldn’t write about bases without included this cult foundation. Nars Sheer Glow might just be the most hyped about foundation in the beauty world! I can see why. It seems to be one of those universal products, that work on so many different people.
This provides a great medium coverage, that can be built up if needed. I find that on me, this foundation applies much better with a sponge to avoid brush marks. I have the colour ‘Deauville’ or Light 4. This is the perfect shade when I am wearing gradual tan, but worth baring in mind that it is quite a yellow based shade. Nars also do a great range of undertones, so you’ll be able to find your ideal colour match.
If I’m rating these, it gets a 7.5 out of 10. The only reason it isn’t higher is that on my skin, you can see it more than the other two bases. I haven’t come across anyone else with this problem, so possibly just my skin type. It photographs beautifully too.
LA Girl Pro Coverage HD Long Wear Illuminating Foundation
This was such a good find! Honestly, I have been so impressed with this foundation for the price (around £10). It has an extremely long name, but it really does live up to all those claims. This has great coverage, yet it gives my skin a lovely glow. On the skin, it looks radiant – not ‘wet’ looking, not does it look drying at all.
It has a long wear time, but somehow feels so comfortable the whole day. The product itself is quite runny, so it melts into the skin. I would say this is the best option of the three for those with dry skin. I do think this would slide around on the skin due to being so illuminating!
As for a rating out of 10, I’d have to give this one a 9. I really do love it, but it loses a point for the shade names. I have the colour ‘Fair’ which is not very light at all! So worth having a really good look online at swatches to find your ideal shade. There is a white version of this though, so you could always mix it to make your perfect shade throughout the year!
MaxFactor Face Finity All Day Flawless Foundation
The newest to my collection is the All Day Flawless foundation from MaxFactor! This is another high street option, and only costs around £11. This is the first base product from the brand I have tried, and it has definitely left a good first impression.
Its marketed as a 3-in-1 but I still like to use primer and concealer to highlight with this, more out of habit than anything else. In all honestly, I haven’t had a long time to test this one out, but I just had to include it as it provides such flawless coverage! It applies beautifully with a beauty sponge or brush. I have the colour ‘Golden 75’ which I wish was a tiny bit more yellow toned, but the perfect shade to match my fake tan.
It gets a 7.5 out of 10 for me, but I’m sure this will increase the more I use it!
