I thought I’d try something a little different today! I’ve stripped back the blog props and fairy lights to take some really simple photos. Instead of the long rambling review posts you’ll usually see here on my blog (which I hope you like too!), I’ve gone for some quick and speedy reviews.
5 beauty products, 5 mini reviews. Let me know if this is something you’d like to see more of! Let’s go…
I am a complete newbie to Bobbi Brown as a brand. When I bought my Estee Lauder Pink Ribbon box, I was so excited to spot this product in there. The Vitamin Enriched Face Base is a thick, orange scented cream, designed to be worn either alone, or as a moisturiser ready for makeup.
Now, this cream wasn’t quite as moisturising as I thought it would be – I still like to use a serum beneath. But I’m actually not complaining, as this makes it a perfect base for makeup. It hydrates my skin without being greasy, so makeup doesn’t slip and slide once it is applied. It sinks in fast and feels comfortable all day.
The only downside is that this product doesn’t have any SPF! For this reason, I only use it when I’m doing my makeup in the evening, as I feel like applying another cream for sun protection over the top sort of defeates the purpose. If you aren’t a wearer of SPF daily, this won’t be an issue, but worth mentioning just in case.
Marks out of 10? – 7 out of 10. I would definitely consider buying the full size. Link to buy here.
If you read my blog frequently, you’ll probably have seen this one crop up before. I treated myself to one of the Too Face Melted Matte liquid lipsticks with a birthday voucher, as I’d spotted quite a few people raving about the range.
Childstar is a pinky-nude with a slight purple tone to it. On the nude spectrum, it is more on the mauve side than the orange/brown side. It has impressive lasting power, but I’m most impressed with the way that it wears off. As the day goes on, it wears off so evenly and the colour just seems to fade away. No patchy lipstick here! Simply reapply as needed, easy peasy.
As a side note, these lipsticks smell delicous too. I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about this lipstick, it has become one of my favourit beauty products!
Marks out of 10? I have to give it 10, without a doubt. Treat yourself to one of these here!
Another one from the Estee Lauder Box! Another brand that I hadn’t tried before, as well as being brand I’d heard so much about. Glamglow make so many amazing-looking face masks, so I was eager to try this one. I use a face mask at least once a week (I’m actually wearing the Origins Rose Clay Retuxturising mask as I write this!!)
Ok, so when I first applied this (I do this with a flat foundation brush for an even application), it started to warm up after about 30 seconds. For a moment, I considered washing it off straight away, just in case I was having an allergic reation. I stuck with it and after a couple of minutes, the heat/tingling stopped. I realised after this was all part of the magic!
The mask comes off really easily with a face cloth and water, so you don’t need to scrub at your skin. It left my face feeling incredibly soft. I actually noticed I had a couple of tiny spots the day after using this, which were gone by the second day. I think (and I’m definitely no expert) that the mask drew out the impurities and dirt left in my skin and the spots were a result of that. A proper detox.
Marks out of 10? I’d give this a 7 – because the tingling does make me a bit nervous, but apart from that, it definitely works for my skin. Link to buy here.
I’m a huge fan of using oils as part of my beauty routine. I actually wrote a post on my 2 favourite beauty oils just before this little gem arrived on my doorstep. I was very kindly sent this oil to try out by Gioventu, who make amazing skin and haircare oils, among many other things.
You can use this in lots of ways (a great, multi-use product) but I already have a favourite way to treat my skin. As a dry skinned gal, using this as an overnight mask works wonders for my skin. Especially now the cold weather has arrived and the central heating is on, my skin feels dryer than ever! So I apply a generous layer to my face, and leave it to sink in. My skin practically drinks up the Vitamin E oil. I think you could mix this with your foundation for a glowy look, so I’ll report back once I’ve tried it.
Marks out of 10? This easily gets a 9/10. Now a staple in my winter skincare routine, this is one of those fab all-round beauty products.
I’ve popped a haircare product into this blog post, as I don’t think I’ve reviewed this salt spray for you lovely lot yet. A little about my hair first – I have waist length, very straight hair. It is fine, but there is lots of it. Any extra texture and volume is welcome when it comes to my hair!
I chose the Toni & Guy salt spray to try and I am so glad that I did. Less than £5 for a bottle that has already lasted me months, so a bargain too. My favourite way to use this is to scrunch it through my hair while it is still damp. I then flip my hair upside down and blow dry for maximum volume. It helps gives my hair more grip, some extra volume and a little texture. My favourite thing about the spray is that it doesn’t dry my hair out, which some salt sprays can.
Marks out of 10? An 8/10, I would certainly repurchase this spray, especially at that price.
