December is my favourite time of year. Thursdays are my day off, which are usually spent napping and catching up on blog work. This week though, I decided a festive day out was just what I needed! My boyfriend and I drove to Bath, a beautiful city not too far away from where we live, to explore the Christmas markets this year and eat lots of food. Both of these were accomplished.
We decided to treat ourselves to a Christmas meal out, choosing Zizzi’s. One of my favourite restaurants – I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by a meal there! We went for the 3-course festive menu which I was so impressed by. For £25pp, you get so much food, plus a glass of prosseco!
I had bruschetta to start, lentil ragu with linguine as a main and chocolate melting-in-the-middle pudding for desert. Yum, so delicious. For any veggie/vegan readers, Zizzi’s have amazing options – I didn’t feel like I was missing out by being vegetarian at all.
Ollie had an antipasti board to start, a piccante pizza for a main and clementine sticky toffee pudding for desert. And prosecco of course!
I feel hungry again looking at those photos! There is something so lovely about having a whole day free to do whatever you wish. The pace feels slower, and it felt very festive to be around all the other Christmas shoppers! We spent a calm half an hour looking at the books in Waterstones – I am completely back into reading at the moment. I’m buying new books every week, which feels good after a long time of feeling slightly out of touch with reading.
My only complaint about the day was that we didn’t find a stall in the Christmas market selling fresh, hot donuts. You can’t have everything though!
I’ve nearly finished all of my Christmas shopping, we have a 7ft Christmas tree ready to decorate, so things are feeling merry and bright. I hope I can squeeze in a few more days out before the festive season finishes, but I do love those few, slow days between the big day and New Year for long walks and exploring new villages.
