I am currently listening to Christmas piano music, burning a festive candle next to our beautiful rose gold themed Christmas tree, so decided it was the perfect time to sit down and type up this tag. I can’t believe how quickly December is speeding past – its funny that the month I wait all year for, goes past in a flash. I love writing seasonal tags! Here we go…
What is your favourite Christmas movie/s?
I have so many festive film favourites. One has to be Love Actually – I’m actually going to watch the film this week, played on a big screen with a live orchestra! Feeling very excited, I’ll let you all know how it is. I have a family tradition of watching The Grinch, Muppets Christmas Carol and the Polar Express on Christmas Eve, so they all have a place in my favourite Christmas films. I love Home Alone (1 & 2), The Holiday and Miracle on 34th Street. In fact, I think it would be easier to list the Christmas films that I don’t like! It wouldn’t be a very long list.
Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Always Christmas morning! Usually really early too. I have a lot of family to see, so present giving tends to be spread out over Christmas Day and Boxing Day. There is one present I open on Christmas Eve though – always a new pair of pyjamas ready to wear!
Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
This is a hard question – I’m very lucky to have had so many wonderful Christmases (is that a word?!) that follow similar tradition each year. I think I enjoy the season more and more each year, as I love the amazing feeling you get when you’ve bought people their presents, and truly appreciate time spent with family and loved ones.
Favourite festive food?
Where to start?! I love the way that at Christmas time, there are just no rules about food. You can eat After 8’s for breakfast or lunch, and there is unlimited cheese around. Yum – melted cheese melts my heart. Can I have Christmas party food as my answer? All the Pringles, dips, salad, cheese again, crackers etc.
Favourite Christmas gift?
I’ve had so many amazing, thoughtful gifts over the years! It is hard to pick one, but the one that stands out is when I was about 4, I had seen the Beauty & The Beast film and wanted my own toy Beast. My parents found me one, and we actually have it recorded on video of me dancing round with it on Christmas Day. I think the magic must have felt very real when I opened it on Christmas morning. That Beast is still around somewhere – in the attic probably!
Favourite Christmas scent?
Christmas trees. The amazing, fresh pine needle smell just can’t be beaten. I think that is part of the reason I love real Christmas trees so much. I also love rich spicy scents, like cinnamon and pretty much any festive scented candle. My favourite is the DW Home ‘Festive Holly’ candle. It is quite honestly the scent of Christmas.
Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
As a family, we like to go out somewhere for hot chocolate during the day, and watch a few Christmas films that I mentioned earlier. We always have a snack-buffet style tea in front of the fire, and open our new Christmas pyjamas before heading to bed. I am such a creature of habit, so I wouldn’t want our traditional Christmas Eve to change to much. It is such an exciting feeling when you go to sleep that night, knowing how good the next day will be.
What tops your tree?
An angel that we have had since before I was born! It is a really simple, pretty one that always tops our Christmas tree.
As a kid what was the one gift you always asked for but never received?
Probably a dog, even though I knew deep down I’d never get one. My dad is allergic to fur so that was always a no! Apart from that, I don’t think I ever asked for anything too wild. I can remember asking for a doll called ‘Baby Wee Wee’ when I was really young that my parents never bought me. I had forgotten all about it until I read this question! I just googled the advert for it, and now I can see why my parents didn’t bother getting me that one.
What is the best part about Christmas for you?
Seeing all my lovely family because I love them all! I see them all year round but it just feels extra special at Christmas. I think the best part nowadays is the feeling I get when I know I’ve got someone a sprent that they will completely love, and the excitment that builds until you give it to them.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Funnily enough, today is actually a snow day! It has felt very festive indeed. We once had snow on the ground on Christmas Day after a scattering of snow the night before, but where I live, it rarely snows in December. This is the first time in years!
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home with family who joing us until the afternoon, then we head out for another family party that lasts all evening! It’s been the same routine for a really long time, and I think the evening is my favourite part about Christmas Day, when everyone has fun, there is music and the mood is so happy.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
This is the hardest question of them all. I love ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ because no-one can resist singing along. I love ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ by Andy Williams as we always had that one playing growing up. To be honest though, all the old Christmas songs make me feel happy and festive!
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Umm…Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Vixen, Commet, Cupid, Blitzen, Rudolph…Prancer? I think that is all of them.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
We actually have one of each, but real is my favourite. Our living room isn’t very big, so we have a medium sized real tree in there, with a classic red and gold colour scheme. In our back room, we have a 7ft fake tree that looks beautiful and grand! Doesn’t quite have the same smell though.
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
I used to prefer receiving when I was younger – I didn’t have any money to buy presents to give! Once I started earning enough to buy gifts, that instantly changed. Nothing makes me happier than shopping for other people. It’s completely guilt free as you know how good it will make the other person feel. I’m already excited for everyone to unwrap their presents this year.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I honestly love being at home with my whole family at Christmas. If I had to choose somewhere else, I’d love to take everyone to New York for a snowy Christmas! But really, I have no complaints about the lovely South West of England!
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
Pro wrapper! To me, there is nothing better than sitting down with a pile of presents, some wrapping paper and ribbons and Christmas film to watch. I’ve managed to resist wrapping so far, I’m heading out to choose the wrapping paper for this year tomorrow. I’m thinking maybe green themed or rose gold this year.
Most memorable Christmas moment?
Playing skittles with my family at my grandparents house every Christmas Day – a bit competition to find the winner!
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I’m quietly ignoring this question. He is real!
I hope you enjoyed this tag – it felt super long but definitely got me feeling festive. 100 points to the person who guesses how many times I managed to say the word ‘Christmas’ in this blog post! Feel free to steal the questions for your own Christmas tag on your blog – send me a link as I’d love to see your answers! X
