Christmas really is just around the corner, with less than a week to go. I’ve wrapped everyone’s presents, made a gingerbread house and I’m listening to Christmas songs non-stop. This wonderfully festive time of year has always been such a highlight for me. I can’t wait to finish work and spend lots more time with my family and friends. Working full time means fitting in days out and visiting people whenever I can, so I’m looking forward to winding down.
Despite being so busy this December, I’ve fitted in some lovely, slow seasonal activites. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the commercial side of Christmas – I find it hard to only choose a few presents for other people. I want everyone to feel so happy when they open thoughtful, meaningful gifts! For me, it is mostly about what the gifts represnt. I think choosing a present that might have been mentioned in passing a long time ago, like a well-thought out book or a small piece of jewellery feel the most lovely to unwrap.
I definitely haven’t done as much Christmas cooking and baking as I’d like – but there is still plenty of time! We have made a gingerbread house that definitely isn’t pretty, but it was hilarious to make, and so much fun to be absorbed in a task you don’t normally do. I hope our awful gingerbread house makes you smile!
I adore wrapping presents. It is one of my favourite ways to get into the festive spirit. I love settling down with a Christmas film, a pile of presents and getting started. I bought my paper from Card Factory this year – I chose a traditional red paper with some silver and white too. The tiny white snowflakes were from Sainsbury’s. They are wooden with a little sticker on the back so you can attach them to any present. So cute. I’m not claiming to be a present wrapping expert, but it does make me very happy indeed.
One of my December highlights so far has to have been the Love Actually live show. The tour travelled around the UK, playing the film on a huge screen with a full live orchestra playing all of the songs. It was the most festive, wonderful evening! If it comes around again next year, please try to get ticketss – I can’t recommend it enough. The music is beautiful in the film, so it was amazing to hear it live.
What have been your higlights for December so far?
