Reflecting back at 2017: Mindful Thoughts

Reflecting back at 2017

I use my blog as a diary just as much as I do to share my favourite makeup products or books. 2017 has been the first full year I’ve spent blogging, so it seems only right to share a few thoughts on the year.

My blog.

I feel so proud of how my blog has developed this year. I’ve managed to publish hundreds of blog posts and have nearly reached 30,000 page views. I just can’t believe it!

I’ve made so many new friends in the blogging community and it has made me realise how warm and useful the Internet can be. Back in January, I went self-hosted with my blog, which meant buying my own domain and space on the Internet. This is probably one of the best decisions I’ve made with my blog as it has allowed me to personalise it, making my own. Huge thanks to pipdig for their amazing themes! I’ve already had two, and have my eye on their latest them released too.

I feel so lucky to have worked with some amazing brands this year including Daniel Wellington, L’Occitane , Clive Christian and Desenio! I hope my blog continues to grow in the New Year.

Mindset.

I wanted to talk about mental health too. I think often we consider of physical health much more important but really, the two go hand in hand. If you’ve read my blog for a while, you’ll know that sometimes, anxiety is present in my life. There’s no shame in admitting that – we need to talk more about it more to reduce stigma.

Throughout the year, I faced lots of challenges that made me feel anxious. I am so proud of myself for doing things scared me! It’s very easy to take the less-scary route – avoiding challenges and hiding away. but, I try to keep in mind the quote that I shared my recent blog post. ‘Ships in the harbour are safe, but that’s not what ships are built for’. More than ever, I’ve learnt to think about what will come after the challenge – the rewarding feeling of knowing I did it, despite my mind trying to convince me otherwise.

Work.

When it comes to work this year, I’ve worked harder than ever before! Juggling two very different jobs along with my blog and a social life means I have felt exhausted at points, but it is so rewarding to work hard! My main job involves working in marketing, where I’ve learnt lots already.

Life.

When it comes to life in general, it’s been a funny year. So much has happened, and there have been extreme highs, where I felt happier than ever. Life can’t be all laughter though, and with those highs, came lows and loss.

If I’ve learned one thing this year, it’s to spend as much time as you can with your loved ones, cherishing every moment together. There will never be quite enough time, so we should all make the most of happy days, storing them as memories.
