If you’re a beauty or makeup lover, I’d be suprised if you hadn’t heard of the Tarte Shape Tape concealer. The full coverage concealer that is loved by so many comes in at a slightly heft £22 per bottle. It’s a lot of money for a concealer if you aren’t sure you’ll love it, especially if you are a fan of high street concealers.
When I heard there was a £4 Tarte Shape Tape dupe on the market, I couldn’t resist buying it to try it out! The concealer is the Makeup Revolution Define and Conceal.
Makeup Revolution have become known for their dupes (this Naked palette-inspired eyeshadow set is worth trying) and so I headed to Superdrug. On day one, the display was empty apart from about 2 concealers! I popped back the next day, saw there was a restock and new I had to jump on the bandwagon.
There aren’t many reviews online yet, and there were no testers left so I just had to guess my shade! I have very fair skin naturally (lighter than NC15 in MAC) by usually wear gradual or fake tan so my skin tone varies. I always like quite a bright under-eye though, so I chose the colour ‘C2’.
There are 15 shades altogether, with ‘C2’ being the second lightest. I’d say it’s a pretty good match for me! I’ve been quite used to a more yellow toned concealer, whereas this is more of a neutral, leaning towards pink shade. It works perfectly under the eyes, brightening really well. Next time, I’d go for a slightly more yellow shade as there weren’t any testers for me to try. That’s only a personal preference – the C2 shade does still match my skin!
So, into the performance! I am SO impressed by the coverage of this concealer, I’d actually say it is full coverage. The pigmentation is high, with a slightly thicker consistency than I am used to. Somehow though, it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin.
The best way to apply this is patted in with either a beauty blender or your fingers. With thicker concealers, the warm of your hands melts it into the skin, avoiding that heavy look. Same with the beauty sponge – the moisture keeps it looking light and hydrated! Each time I’ve used this, it has lasted ALL day – so some impressive staying power.
It blends well with each of the foundations I’ve tried it with, for a nice, seamless finish. In terms of finish, I’d say it dries matte – you could get away without setting it if you have dry skin like me. The applicator is exactly like the Shape Tape concealer, more chunky than your usual concealer sponge.
