I love the feeling when the seasons start to shift. Now that lighter mornings have arrived, we can wave goodbye to dark, cold early starts and frosty mornings. The winter is leaving, and in it’s place, is Spring. A month of fresh starts, organising, sunshine and optimism.
I do love A/W, but since last year, I’ve made an effort to embrace every season without wishing it away, so here are 6 reaons I’m glad the Spring months have arrived.
1. An excuse to Spring clean and declutter!
As someone who would quite happily be messy all year round, I need every reason possible to motivate me to get tidy and organised. I find it hard to throw things away and wish being an untidy person wasn’t quite so deeply set into my habits. I’m great for a week or so, then back to my old ways. This time of year is the perfect opportunity to declutter!
Set a timer for half an hour, and sort out one place, whether that is a drawer, your handbag, a section of your wardrobe – wherever you like. Organise everything inside into three piles. Keep, donate and throw away. Bin the throw-away pile immeditaly to stop you being tempted to rescue the old purse or scruffy t-shirt that is actually really comfy. You don’t need it! By the time your timer goes off, you’ll want to keep going with tidying – it makes it seem much less daunting.
2. Longer days
Being the Brit that I am, I couldn’t avoid mentioning how lovely the longer days are. For anyone, this is fab, but it is brillant as a blogger too – I can now take photos after 3pm in the afternoon! Yay for natural lighting. As much as I love a cosy night in with a candle during the colder months, this time of year means I’m outside much more.
Head out for a walk, go to the pub for an evening drink or simply enjoy not needing to draw the curtains anytime before 7pm. Bliss!
3. Beautiful flowers
Whether you are someone who likes flowers or not, there is just something amazing about all the greenery and bright colour of flowers coming back to our surroundings. Every day, I drive an hour or so to get to work. I go through the same lot of trees every single day, and watch them change as the seaons pass. No longer are they covered in snow (I hope I’m not speaking too soon!) but instead, beautifully bright leaves cover them.
Plus, we all love a good insta shot of some blossom falling from a cherry tree. It has to be done.
4. Spring fashion
I love picking outfits at this time of year. We are all a little tired of wearing 500 layers just to keep warm each day, but nor are we quite ready to ditch the long sleeves and tights. Bulky coats and hats are no longer a necessity but a choice! By midday on a sunny afternoon, you can actually feel warm, but without needing a mini-dress just to stay cool.
My favourite sort of Spring outfit is a denim jacket, a soft white jumper and some linen, tie-waist trousers, finished with some white trainers. Light layers do the trick, and we can finally wear sunglasses again without looking silly.
5. Baby animals
What could be nicer than seeing baby lambs in the fields and Easter chicks hatching out? Super cute and an instant mood-booster. I am feeling very tempted to start volunteering at my local animal shelter. I currently work Saturdays as well as during the week, but once my weekends are more free, I plan on helping walk dogs and cuddle cats. What could be nicer!
A 4 day weekend (5 in my case if you book an extra day of holiday off!) and a chance to go out, see friends and family as well as relax and have an early night or two if you wish. Whatever you get up to, enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend. Treat it like a mini-Christmas, filled with lots of fun and chocolate.
I haven’t eaten an Easter egg yet but I’m sure it won’t be too long. I have my eye on some of the amazing funky ones in John Lewis and Waitrose at the moment. Complete with an avocado chocolate egg – what more could you want as a millennial (*rolls eyes*)!
